How the HVAC School Finder Works

You don't need a school in mind yet. Tell the finder what kind of training you want, where you live and whether you need evening classes, and it does the comparing for you.

  1. You Answer Six Questions

The training you want, your state, your schedule, the work you want to do, what matters most and anything else you'd like us to weigh.

  2. We Read 138 Programs

The finder keeps the programs that meet your answers, then reads each one's details and our review against what you told us.

  3. You Get Your Matches

Up to five programs, each with a match percentage, the facts behind it and a link to its full review in our rankings.

What Our HVAC School Finder Compares

The Training You Want

74 programs name a certificate or diploma, 53 publish associate degree completions, and 32 offer both, so you can start working and come back for the degree. 28 name an apprenticeship or employer training route.

Where You Live

Our programs sit in 38 states. HVAC training happens in a shop or lab with real equipment, so the finder starts with programs near you and tells you when one would mean moving.

Evening Classes

29 programs name evening, weekend or part-time study on their own pages. Pick "Evenings or Part-Time" and the finder keeps to those first.

EPA 608 and Other Credentials

48 programs name EPA 608 preparation, 11 name NATE and 8 tie the program to a state license or contractor exam route.

Paid Training

28 programs name an apprenticeship or paid employer training, and 7 more name an internship or co-op. Pick "Get paid while I train" to move them up.

Accreditation

Every program here is accredited by HVAC Excellence or PAHRA, and 7 hold both. 53 also report how many students complete HVAC training each year in federal data.

Rather browse on your own? Every program in the finder has a full review in our rankings. Start with the best HVAC programs ranked nationally, or find HVAC programs in your state.

Which HVAC Program Fits the Work You Want?

Home Heating and Air Conditioning

Most training starts here: furnaces, heat pumps, central air, and the service calls that keep them running. 134 programs in our finder give this side real weight. If you want to work for a local contractor or start your own business one day, see our HVAC technician career guide for what the job pays.

Commercial and Industrial Systems

Office buildings, schools and factories run bigger equipment, such as chillers, boilers and building controls. 102 programs in our finder cover this work. Pick it in question four and the finder favors them, then check each program's course list before you apply.

Commercial Refrigeration

Grocery stores, restaurants and warehouses depend on walk-in coolers, freezers and ice machines. 94 programs in our finder teach refrigeration. It is a steady specialty, and EPA 608 certification is required to handle refrigerant in any of it.

Earn While You Train

28 programs in our finder name an apprenticeship or paid employer training, and 7 more name an internship or co-op. Our apprenticeship vs. trade school guide helps you decide which route fits your life.

Why the Finder Sometimes Shows Close Matches

HVAC training is local. 11 states have just one program in our data, and none has more than 11, so three firm answers can leave very few.

When fewer than five programs fit every answer, the finder lists those first, then fills the rest with close matches. Each one misses exactly one of your answers, and its card names it. Close matches in your own state come before any that would mean moving.

HVAC School Finder FAQ

How Does the HVAC School Finder Work?

You answer six questions: the kind of training you want, where you live, whether you need evening classes, the work you want to do, what matters most and anything else we should know. The finder keeps the programs among our 138 that meet your answers, reads each one's details and our review against what you told us, and shows you up to five.

Can It Find HVAC Programs Near Me?

Yes. Pick your state in question two and the finder starts with programs there. Our data covers 38 states, and 11 of them have just one program, so you may see close matches from a neighboring state too. Each one says what it differs on. Browse every program in your state on our HVAC programs by state pages.

Will It Tell Me Which Programs Prepare Me for EPA 608?

When the school says so. A match card says "Names EPA 608 prep" only when the school's own program page mentions EPA Section 608 preparation. That's 48 of our 138 programs. A program that doesn't mention it may still prepare you, so ask the school. Our EPA 608 certification guide explains what the exam covers.

Why Did I Get Programs Outside My State?

Because most states have only a few programs in our data, and none has more than 11. When fewer than five programs fit every answer, the finder adds close matches. Programs in your state come first, and any program that would mean moving says so on its card.

How Is My Match Percentage Worked Out?

Your match percentage shows how closely a program fits what you told us, from its description (courses, schedule, credentials and the review on our ranking pages) and its published facts (award, accreditation and training route). It compares programs for you. It is not a grade of the school.

Do Schools Pay to Appear in My Results?

Not in your matches. The listing at the top of your results is marked AD and comes from schools that pay to appear there. Your matches below it come from our own data, and no school can pay to change them.

Do I Need an Account or to Share My Contact Details?

No. The finder never asks for your name, email or phone number, and you don't need to sign up. Please leave contact details out of the optional text boxes.

Can I Run the Finder Again?

Yes. Tap "Start Over" on your results and change any answer. Switching between a certificate and an associate degree, or adding evening classes, is the quickest way to see how much your options shift.
